Norwich City, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday eyeing Wigan Athletic midfielder

Norwich City, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday have all been credited with an interest in Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell.

The Championship trio are eyeing a move for the 25-year-old who is out of contract at the end of the season, as per a report by Derbyshire Live.

Powell, who has been hit by injuries this season, has still managed to score seven goals in 27 appearances so far in this campaign.

He has impressed for Wigan since re-signing for them in July 2016. Powell was a key player in their League One title winning season of 2017 under Paul Cook.

The Cheshire-born midfielder started his career at local side Crewe Alexandra and rose through the youth ranks with the Railwaymen. Powell broke into their first-team when he was 18 years-old and scored 16 goals in the 2011/12, which earned him a £6 million move to Manchester United.

Powell’s time at United was plagued by injuries but he did score on his debut at Old Trafford against Wigan in September 2012. He went onto play just nine times for the Red Devils and was loaned out to the Latics, Leicester City and Hull City before returning to the DW Stadium on a permanent deal.

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have been continuously linked with a move for him this season but it now appears Powell will have the opportunity to stay in the Championship with either Derby County or Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Norwich City, who look set to be in the Premier League in the next campaign, could pop up as another option for the in-demand midfielder now.
