Marcelo Bielsa admits it has been hard to keep Leeds United players calm

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has admitted to Sky Sports that it has been difficult to keep the players calm in the automatic promotion run-in.

While Leeds have had a few close calls in the past, this is the best chance the West Yorkshire club have had in a generation to return to the Premier League. Following their 1-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, Leeds are now three points ahead of 3rd placed Sheffield United and with just a few games to go, it does seem likely that they will be getting promoted.

As you would expect, many of the Leeds players are incredibly excited at the potential of being promoted into the Premier League and being hailed as Whites legends for years to come. This though seems to be aggravating Bielsa, who has been doing his best to keep the players calm so they can focus on finishing the job and securing that all-important promotion.

He said: “When the atmosphere close to you is excited, it is more difficult to be calm.”

“You need to have both these feelings and it is hard to balance the two. There are no football players who don’t have the same feelings as the fans.”

“As professionals they have to balance that and be calm.”

Leeds will hope to take another step towards promotion against Wigan Athletic on Good Friday.
