Ipswich Town striker returns to the club following loan spell

Ipswich Town have signed striker Will Keane following his loan spell as confirmed on their official website.

Keane has arrived at Portman Road as a free agent after he left Hull City from whom he was on loan from at Ipswich for the second half of the last campaign. He has signed a one year contract with the additional option of a further year.

The former Manchester United man scored three times in 12 appearances for Town in a run that was frustrated by a hamstring injury.

Keane’s career has been awash with loan spells as he has found it difficult to consistently retain a place in the starting line up at the clubs he has been with.

After progressing through Manchester United’s Academy, he made three first-team appearances as well as having loan spells at Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston before joining Hull in 2016.

He is the brother of England international defender Michael Keane who plys his trade at Premier League Everton and he also qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland despite having international experience for the England youth teams.

Speaking back in April, Lambert said that he thought signing Keane would be ‘great’ and that owner Marcus Evans was speaking to the former Manchester United man’s agent.

Keane himself said a permanent move to the Blues was something he would definitely be interested in.

Lambert had previously played down his return stating that he would need a fully fit squad to perform following their relegation to League One but with Keane they do now have more options in forward areas.
