West Brom Player Ratings following 1-1 draw at home to Reading

West Bromwich Albion played out a 1-1 draw with Reading at the Hawthorns in the latest round of Championship fixtures and here we assess the Baggies’ player performances in the entertaining draw.

SAM JOHNSTONE – 6

Had no chance with the goal as Ejaria was allowed to wander forward. Made a couple of decent saves from range, improved performance.

DARNELL FURLONG – 7

Came in for teenager Nathan Ferguson who didn’t make the squad as he was perhaps rested by Bilic. Furlong performed impressively, made several marauding runs forward in support of Phillips.

KYLE BARTLEY – 6

Solid defensively and rarely troubled. Reading had plenty of attacking play but Bartley coped well in the main.

SEMI AJAYI – 6

Couple of questionable moments on the ball but dealt well with the lively Puscas. Will need to continue being solid with the return of Hegazi on the horizon.

KIERAN GIBBS – 6

The left back was back to his defensively solid self. Closed down crosses better than against Luton and always an outlet on the wing.

JAKE LIVERMORE – 7

The captain delivered another good performance. Made some important interceptions and looked forward to push Albion up the pitch.

ROMAINE SAWYERS – 6

Was always going to struggle to continue with the passing stats he racked up against Luton. Misplaced some passes throughout the game and almost caught out on a number of occasions.

MATT PHILLIPS – 7

Very much the livewire of the midfield going forward, constant threat down the right hand side. Much improved from his display at Kenilworth Road.

FILIP KROVINOVIC – 7

Worried the fans when he had to receive treatment from a robust challenge in the first half. Always driving forward and won the penalty for Zohore to slot away.

GRADY DIANGANA – 6

It was always going to be a struggle to match his Luton display but he offered plenty of attacking threat. Had a couple of decent shots and Albion looked better when he was on the ball.

CHARLIE AUSTIN – 6

Always backs himself to hit the target. Still not sure if he is entirely match fit but will be an important player in the coming months. Replaced by Zohore after 75 minutes.

SUBS:

MATHEUS PEREIRA – 7

Looked lively when he came on. Had a couple of shots and was also involved in the build up to the penalty.

KENNETH ZOHORE – 7

Has endured a difficult start to life in the blue and white stripes but it takes determination and bottle to slot away a penalty just 10 minutes after coming on and he did so with aplomb.

KYLE EDWARDS

Little time to make an impact.
