Barnsley could lose ex-Hannover 96 and FC Nurnberg goalkeeper for free

Samuel Sahin-Radlinger’s contract at Barnsley expires next month.

The Austrian goalkeeper only signed a one-year deal at Oakwell when he joined the club last summer.

Gerhard Struber’s side will now be weighing up whether to extend his stay in South Yorkshire, though that could depend on what league they are in next season.

Barnsley should try and keep him at the club for next term. He adds more options and depth to their goalkeeping department and provides more competition for the number one spot.

Sahin-Radlinger, who is 27 years old, has made 18 appearances in all competitions for the Tykes this season. However, he was signed by Daniel Stendel and it is unknown whether he is part of Struber’s long-term plans.

The 6ft 6inc ‘keeper started his career in Austria with SV Ried before Hannover 96 signed him in 2011. He was a regular for their B team and went onto play 6 times for their first-team.

He spent the majority of his time in Hannover out on loan gaining experience with the likes of Rapid Wien, FC Nurnberg and Brann.

Sahin-Radlinger is safe pair of hands and should be kept by Barnsley as more back-up for next season. Clubs in the lower leagues are starting to release their retained lists, whereas Championship sides are expected to wait a while for theirs whilst the decision on what to do with the season’s continuation ongoing.

The Austrian stopper is a adequate competition with Brad Collins for the Tykes’ goalkeeping jersey and should be kept.
